VIOLET HOUR

(6m, U S A) dir. by Mark Allen

Tom Freed is a young African-American living in South Los Angeles. With support from his wife, he puts himself through gay-conversion therapy to cure his sexual desires. When a christian psychologist and leader of the group session gives a lesson on curing his desires through masculine activities, Tom finds inspiration at a basketball court. While there, he sees the ultimate representation of masculine authority in the hood — a gun. When his wife tells him to throw the gun away, he refuses. In the end, he makes a fateful decision and pulls the trigger, a symbol of the highest masculine authority with devastating consequences.
